Tin

Tin

The silvery metallic metal is malleable and chiefly found in Cassiterite, a tin oxide mineral and is highly crystalline. Tin can be highly polished and it does not easily get oxidized in air and hence it is used for protective coating on other metals to prevent corrosion. Though tin is defiant to water it is easily assaulted by acids and alkalis. Tin bonds easily with iron, hence tin-plated steel containers are widely used to preserve food items. The other applications of tins include, negative electrode in advanced Li-ion batteries, Punched tin lanterns, etc.
